“Interpreting Brain Injury Assessment in the Forensic System: From Findings to Intervention”
This three-hour training expands upon the foundational concepts introduced in Adding Insight to Injury: Advancing Brain Injury Assessment and Intervention in the Forensic System by focusing on the interpretation and application of brain injury assessment findings within forensic settings. The first hour will provide a concise review of the Colorado Brain Injury Model and the assessment process, including screening procedures, cognitive assessment components, and the identification of cognitive strengths and weaknesses relevant to justice-involved individuals. The remainder of the training will focus on case conceptualization, translating assessment findings into clear and actionable forensic reports, and developing individualized recommendations that support competency-related services, legal system navigation, rehabilitation, and community reintegration. Through case examples, participants will explore realistic treatment expectations, intervention planning, and practical strategies for communicating brain injury-related findings to courts, legal professionals, treatment providers, and other stakeholders.
PARTICIPANT OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:
Review and describe the key components of the Colorado Brain Injury Model assessment process, including screening, cognitive assessment, and interpretation of findings within forensic populations.
Analyze and conceptualizebrain injury assessment results to identify cognitive strengths, limitations, and functional implications, and translate findings into individualized forensic recommendations and intervention strategies.
Develop and communicate forensically informed reports that effectively convey assessment findings, treatment expectations, and recommendations to various stakeholders involved in the individual's care and progression through the legal system.
