OATSA Events

Oregon ATSA partners with regional professionals and partner organizations to bring in-person and virtual trainings to advance the knowledge and skills of professionals providing services in the field of sexual abuse.

As an OATSA Member, you receive event registration discounts, saving an average of $150-200 annually.

As a Friends of OATSA Member, you receive discounts as well, saving on average $50-100 annually.

We have all been missing the more frequent opportunities we used to have to connect with one another, both socially and professionally. These discussion groups will serve the peer consultation and collaboration role that our annual retreat used to, until the retreats can resume again. Suicide Risk Assessment, Treatment & Management by Mark Shorr, LPC, CADC

This is a hybrid event. You can participate in person or virtually. In-person spaces are limited to 40 & will be first come, first served.

About this event

Awareness of client potential for suicide is essential for ethical clinical practice. In this training, therapists will learn assessing suicide risk factors, and treatment, including:

  • which diagnoses, risk factors and symptoms should be most concerning

  • the most important elements to document in a suicide risk assessment

  • how to develop a suicide safety plan with a client

  • when higher levels of care are indicated

Mark Schorr has been a licensed professional counselor and certified addictions counselor for more than 30 years. He worked for 15 years for Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare, the region's largest mental health provider. He rose from being a staff clinician to director of training. He worked for eight years for Portland DBT, where he also developed their training program. For the past six years, he has worked at Pacific Premier Group, where a multi-disciplinary team works with clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance abuse issues. He has done trainings throughout the Pacific Northwest, in California, New York, and China.

This workshop will take place from 12 -4pm. Mark Shorr will present until 3pm and then there will be a group discussion on the application to our professional settings. OATSA will sponsor a happy hour at 4:30 at a local establishment in Salem. Location TBD.

OATSA is very pleased to partner with Katherine “Katie” Gotch, LPC, ATSA-F, Oregon SOTB Certified Clinical Sexual Offense Therapist, who will be facilitating a two-part training series on the Static 99R & the STABLE 2007. The workshop will be held Friday, August 20, 2021, 8:AM & Friday, August 27th, 8:AM, and will occur via Zoom.

Workshop Details:

Static-99R:

Sexual recidivism risk assessments are increasingly utilized in a variety of behavioral health, correctional, and court settings. The Static-99R is one of the most commonly used sexual offense-specific risk assessment instruments in the world.

This session will provide an overview of the development and research of the Static-99R, item-by-item instructions for scoring the tool, and appropriate interpretation and use within varying settings. Case studies will be utilized to facilitate practice throughout the training as well.

STABLE-2007 & ACUTE-2007:

Comprehensive risk assessment incorporates the use of both static (e.g., Static-99R) and dynamic risk assessment instruments. The STABLE-2007 & ACUTE-2007 are some of the most commonly used dynamic sexual offense-specific risk assessment instruments within behavioral health, correctional, and court settings.

This session will provide an overview of the development and research of the STABLE-2007 & ACUTE-2007, item-by-item instructions for scoring the tools, and appropriate interpretation and use within varying settings. Case studies will be utilized to facilitate practice throughout the training and to learn to avoid common administration errors.
